Angry Birds Space Coming March 22

Who better than to announce Angry Birds Space than a NASA Astronaut? Rovio has entrusted the like of NASA to introduce the latest entry into their incredibly successful franchise from the International Space Station. The new game will feature 60 levels, new abilities, secret bonus levels and of course, new birds. The first product to come from Kevin Rose and his new venture Milk, is the clever social check in app for your iPhone called Oink. What puts this application a step above the foursquare and facbook check in crowd is Oink’s ability to rate content within places you have checked into. When you check into a new restaurant you have the ability to rate food based on your experience. That experience gets shared on social networks and builds the overall functionality of the application by providing your ranking to others using the app. As you check in and rate, you rank up in leaderboards and are provided other perks along the way. All of this is available as a free app for your iPhone.

It will be very interesting to see how Oink changes the game of check in apps by adding real usable functionality. Let us know what you think about the app below.

Angry Birds

Angry Birds is a simple yet highly addicting arcade game. The premise is to take out the pigs by launching a variety of birds into them or hurling the birds into objects which then hit the pigs. Though the premise is simple, the game offers many different levels and a great deal of strategy combined with environmental physics. This games simplicity and wide re-playability make Angry Birds as one of the best values we have yet seen on the app store.

Siri

Siri is a personal assistant that meets and exceeds any expectation you may have about this app. You can ask Siri just about anything location based and it will return the results you want. The voice recognition is fantastic and understands over 90% of anything I have ever been able to ask Siri. For an app that delivers such great utility, you would expect to have to pay at least 99 cents for it, but it turns out to be free. Try it out and you will be pleasantly surprised at what Siri can do.

Canabalt

Canabalt is a quick and simple time waster. The premise is to run as far as you can while jumping over obstacles by tapping the screen. The game is usually over quickly, but is fun to return to with its fantastic soundtrack. The game is addicting, but does not offer a lot in the way of content for the price. We would like to see this game at $.99.

Plants vs. Zombies

Plants vs. Zombies is one of the best values for the money that I can think currently exists on the app store. A life and house defense game that has you protecting yourself from Zombies by using fun and colorful plants. This is a must own for any strategy game enthusiast.

Multitasking iPhone Concept Shown On Youtube

Oceanobservations has graced us all with a concept that we power-users have wanted since the start, multitasking. Their concept is done using what you would think Apple themselves would use, coverflow. See the video for the full concept and lets all hope this feature comes to the next major update to the iPhone OS. The concept creators full explaination of their idea is below:

The number one requested iPhone feature multitasking is tackled in this “What if iPhone had…” concept by Ocean Observations. There are several benefits of multitasking, and we believe it will come to the iPhone sooner or later.

Our idea is to present the running apps together with the rest of your app icons on the home screen, instead of hiding them behind long pressing some unrelated key. All running apps have a miniature representation in a cover flow at the bottom of the screen. To make room for this, each home screen page will have one less row of icons and the dock is removed completely. But since the running apps often will equal your favourites, they will still be easily accessible.

You can tap or swipe any of the cover flow miniatures to move it into focus. Then tap it again to bring it to full screen. Once an app is full screen, double-tapping the home button brings up the cover flow, letting you jump between running apps. This extra feature could be the new default setting for double-tap, which you could still change in the settings. Tapping the home button once minimizes the app into the running apps cover flow. The apps are arranged by the order you launched them, with the most recently launched app to the left.

A running app is also indicated by a backlighted app icon with a blue text label on the home screen. It’s still possible to bring a running app to full screen by pressing its icon.

To close an app, drag it out of the cover flow and the miniature moves back to the app icon on the home screen. The app icon then changes back to its original state. Depending on the performance of the phone, there could be a maximum number of running apps. In that case, when launching a new app, the least recently used one could be closed automatically.

Shades Cases – iPod Nano Video Review

We take a look at the Shades Cases for the 4th Gen. iPod Nano. While I would love to be overly positive about them due to their environmental friendliness, it is touch to love a product which makes the click-wheel near unusable. It could just be me, but I don’t seem to have the same sort of issues with the other touch interfaces on similar cases.

iPhone Update 3.1.2 Released

Apple has released an update for iPhone and iPod Touch bringing us to 3.1.2. The update addresses some of the common issues of 3.1, but no update yet on battery life. The update contains the following:

This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following:

- Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep
- Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming

The update is available now via software update in iTunes
